Dr Amanjit Jhund appointed as Whipps Cross hospital chief executive
We are delighted to announce that Dr Amanjit Jhund has been appointed as the next chief executive of Whipps Cross hospital. He will take over when Ralph Coulbeck steps down from the post to take a career break.
Amanjit joined the hospital a year ago as deputy CEO in charge of operations, HR & OD, estates and facilities and quality improvement after spells as an executive and board member at NHS Trusts in both Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells, and Croydon. He grew up in Glasgow, qualified as a doctor, graduated with a Masters degree in public health and epidemiology from Harvard, and worked as a doctor in NHS hospitals in Scotland and England. He still maintains both his licence and registration with the GMC and has a passion for integrated care.
Amanjit is also an entrepreneur who set up his own healthcare companies, won a number of industry awards, and worked for the management consultancy McKinsey where he advised national and international clients. He currently serves on the boards of both the Faculty of Public Health and the University of East London, and lives in Wanstead with his young family.
He said: “I am unashamedly ambitious for Whipps because this is my hospital, its where I bring my kids when they’re sick and its where I get treated myself. As a doctor I know that nothing is more important than thinking about how we can improve the care we provide for our patients.”
“We have an exciting year ahead as we look to not just continue our journey towards a new hospital but also to improve the care we provide today. Together we have the potential to make this one of the most transformative years in the history of Whipps Cross and I’m deeply honoured and humbled to be chosen to lead you in this journey.”
Shane DeGaris, group chief executive, said: “Amanjit will bring a new depth and breadth of experience to our senior leadership team. It is always gratifying to be able to promote one of our own people after an open competition. I am also deeply grateful to Ralph, not only for all the work he has done at Whipps Cross in the last few years, but for ensuring a smooth handover.”
Amanjit will take on his new role from Monday 17 July 2023.
