New group plan sets out our ambitions for the year
Every day more than 6,000 people come through the doors of a Barts Health hospital. That’s the equivalent of a new visitor to each location every single minute. Each arrival is a unique case, bringing their own hopes and fears along with their symptoms. All of us in the NHS embrace a duty to care for our fellow citizens and treat them to the best of our abilities.
What makes us unique is the extraordinary diversity of our local population. We have a whole world of heritages, cultures and languages on our doorstep. We are proud of our record in serving so many patients from across the distinctive communities of north east London.
This is a tribute to the many talented and dedicated staff who work in our hospitals and support services. We have some of the best specialist teams in the country. Both clinicians and non-clinical colleagues are passionate about providing high quality care and improving health outcomes among the most vulnerable and deprived in our society.
Although the level of demand has not changed in recent years, we are increasingly seeing more people who are sicker or presenting with more complex problems. This challenge may intensify if the population grows as forecast. Yet we in a good place to respond through the way we operate together as a group, pooling our resources across the Trust to ensure people in need get the right care in the right place at the right time.
Our group operational plan for 2024-25, Safe, compassionate and efficient: 2024-25[pdf] 5MB sets out what we intend to do in the year ahead. Through our group model we will make further improvements in services, transforming care as efficiently as possible for the benefit of patients. We will also work closely with our partners in north east London to chart complementary strategies for integrating care in the spirit of collaboration.
On behalf of the leadership team, my heartfelt thanks go to all our staff and supporters for their continuing commitment to providing safe, compassionate, and efficient care for our patients.
